Smith, Franklin Lafayette

Franklin Lafayette Smith (d. 1835) of Charlotte, NC, entered the University in January 1826 and was a member of the Dialectic Society. Delivering the Latin Salutatory at the 1829 Commencement, he graduated at the top of his class and pursued a law career in Charlotte. Smith died in 1835, having only begun to establish himself as an attorney (Battle 1:322-323).
